Post subject: | [IDEA] Battlecry |
Mercenary Skill. Code: help battlecry
syntax: battlecry <message> automatic Highly trained mercenaries learn to empower themselves using a battlecry, to boost spirit and confidence. A battlecry is individual to every mercenary, as only the warrior knows the best way to encourage himself. However, only he who initiates the combat can be truly confident of the outcome. Okay. Here's the layout. Master(?) skill. Automatic. (as you get better with the skill you have a higher chance of pulling it off) Increases willpower and fortitude for a lil'while. battlecry <battlecry> sets it, kind of like an adjective. Only works when you strike first. Only applies to merc, not a group. Example?.. battlecry Surrender! In the name of the law! Your battlecry has been memorized: Surrender! In the name of the law! In the case of success: --> kill Paladin Your battlecry echoes: Surrender! In the name of the law! Your body and mind are empowered with the spirit of battle! You chop a disgraceful paladin's chest! Some GUTS fall! Failure: --> kill Paladin Your battlecry fails to sound! All hope is lost! You chop a disgraceful paladin's chest! Some GUTS fall! ___________________________ This might vamp them too much. Not at all suggesting implementation. Just looking for feedback. ![]() |

Wouldn't this be a more hellionesque skill as well? Since they are supposed to be masters of the first-blow in battle and fearsome generals/commanders of normal soldiers? Paladins would, when being struck first, get an opposite bonus called "Resolute Defense" or some such. |

It's a slippery slope - but what it really gets down to at it's core, is giving a certain class an automatic bonus to fortitude and willpower. I don't agree with this idea in any form, because to balance it, other classes are going to need to get similar boosts. Why should a merc get an extra bonus against sleep? Why wouldn't wouldn't a paladin get an extra bonus against a reflexive hellfire blast? I don't like this sort of "bonus". EDIT: However, I do like the idea of being able to shout a catchphrase at the start of battle - so I would suggest rallying cry get an argument attached to it instead. |

It's just too automatic. No work/skill involved, but you get a bonus anyway. |

I'd actually take a merc over a barb any day. |
