So, I was thinking.

Rogues, at the moment, aren't much sneakier than most classes. Sneak, hide, disguise, and pick lock (the four skills I would consider sneaky) aren't unique to rogues, and although rogues get 'em all, I think they should have an extra little something that would be not only valuable in RP, but potentially PK, as well.

Essentially, I'm thinking about a rogue-only skill, "enhanced sneak" - active whenever the rogue is sneaking, it automatically attempts to open doors silently - no local echo on either side of the door. It makes a lot of sense - if a rogue is agile enough to hide in the shadows, and sneak from room to room, I can't see why he couldn't open a door quietly.

Thoughts?

I could live with or without this skill.

It also shouldn't set off awareness in barbarians.

But, as a side note: hellions should acquire this as well.

(I'll leave the reasoning for that to the obvious)

Grakus he was proposing to give Rogues a unique skill to offset their lack stealthy unique skills.

I love the idea.

They have plenty of unique skills. But there's a real reason why if they get this hellions should to. It shouldn't be just on rogues. :)

-enhanced- sneak doesn't go well with the heavy armor of the hellion.

That having been said, I'm not for this idea. Rogues are fine (except for the sleep/backstab issue), and so are hellions.

So, tell me aside from maybe, and only maybe, pick-pocket name another unique stealth skill.

BTW Hellions don't anymore stealth. They aren't rogues.

What I would like to see changed with sneak is you type it once, then you are always trying to sneak. You do not get a wear off message saying you no long feel sneaky. At all times, you think you are sneaking. Every time you move, there is a check to see if you are sneaking. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't, but you don't know.

I say no. Rogues are lucky that there isn't a Generic search skill that gives you an intelligence check to find hidden people or doors (Jardeks idea). Or even a search skill, though if there was a search skill I'd give it to rogues who would theoretically be searching for hidden safes and traps and the like.....

Also, I though barbs should be able to counterstrike the steal skill somehow. They have preternatural senses and I think they would be aware of a shift in their body weight if their coin purse were being manipulated or something.

*shrug* It just seems odd to me that a halfling <anything> can be every bit as sneaky as a rogue.
