If I've just discovered nerina, and need to go explore someplace else in uxmaln, and I summon an npc from nerina to uxmal, do I still get an xp penalty?

D said before that non-combat spells don't get affected by area familiarity.

Not the xp for summoning him, the xp for killing him, sorry, wasnt specific enough...

The XP is based off the area the NPC comes from I believe.

Tumrall is correct. It was changed because it was awfully easy to just change areas, summon NPCs and use these areas just for the first level(when you get the xp bonus).

It just so happened that I had this discussion with another player last yesterday (who I don't think is the same person as the poster).

So the XP given by a NPC is affected by the Familiarity of the Area it's summoned for, which increased when you kill NPCs from it, no matter where you are? So are all NPCs now intricately bound to their areas and affect thea areas familiarity level, do I get this right?

What happens to the actual area's familiarity?

Yep. I tested it once by summoning NPCs for an entire level, and then when I went to the area from which I had summoned them, I had already reached the second stage of familiarity.

I find it vaguely amusing you can become familiar with an entire area without stepping foot in it.

Think of it more like, familiar with the customs, beliefs, and fighting styles of the people of that area... I guess that makes sense

Yeah, you become not familiar with an 'area' but with the NPCs of said area.

It should be based on exp per NPC type. *nods sagely*
