This spell is horrid, and has almost no practical application.

Sure, in theory it sounds all right, but the mana drain that is incurred for a sorcerer to hold it is absolutely horrendous.

Could the mana upkeep be lowered? That really kills this spell.

My feeling is that it's meant for quick transport of groups, similar to gate. The spell handles that quite well. It's also fine for solo exploration.

I grant that a shaman's or warlock's water breathing spell is better if a group will be underwater for a long time. But having played all three classes, I don't mind seeing sorcs have the inferior utility spell for a change.

The mana drain is really tremendous. I've found a way around this by polymorphing into a certain race with innate water breathing abilities.

I don't even think of applying it on groups, unless for a short period of time. ..which, I believe, may be the purpose of this spell. I've also (oddly enough) never found a stave of airy water. This also makes things more complicated, since a sorceror cannot recharge the staves of water breathing that are available.

Seeing though that sorcerors get a plethora of other utility spells, I suppose it serves the overall balance of the class.

Does a scribed scroll of airy water, give it to an entire group?

If so then the spell is fine as it is.

It does.

Airy water is fine the way it is. Breathing underwater has always been pretty difficult to pull off, and it should stay that way. Although it's a huge mana drain, that's the point. It's meant to be used with caution.

I agree with Cyra. The way things are now is backwards. Waterbreathing is used for one person, while airy water, when cast, affects the whole party indicating that it's intended to be used by groups.

Why would a spell that is made to be used by groups be harder to use then a spell that works primarily for one person. You have to cast waterbreathing repeatedly to get the same affect of airy water.

Airy water is one spell that you are holding on a party, while water breathing is a bunch of spells you are holding on a bunch of different people. Airy water should have a lower mana cost and lower concentration then watebreathing, it's just common sense. It actually might have lower concentration if you are holding water breathing of four or five people.

Grab a stave of water breathing and brandish it.

I can think of about 50 million different types of water breathing staves too.

Airy water is useless.
