Okay, first off. [REDACTED] about str and dex scores because they are one of the easiest things to fix, and the least likely to unbalance the game as a whole.

So, I've basically skimmed everything that's been said on this topic. Dwarves ARE decent, but I'd like to see them specficallly get a slight buff, and then a more far-reaching game-wide buff that helps them a bit more then others.

Specifically, I'd like to see axes across the board get a slight speed boost. If it's ABSOLUTELY needed, a tiny reduction in damage could happen, but I'd rather just see the slight speed boost.

Once that is done, go in and give dwarves a one point dex boost. I believe that'd make them 19 dex, which would still be under a human, but not by as much. Yeah, it isn't going to be the most noticeable thing in the world, but they don't need the hugest stat boost to become competitive either. I wouldn't cry if it got boosted by two up to human level, but that's walking a little more shaky ground. No STR boost should be involved though, they are stout and steady. They aren't the unstoppable force, they are the unmoveable object. I'd also like to see their INT raised by two. I completely agree with their wisdom being 18, but their INT being the same doesn't make alot of sense. Dwarves are never really portrayed as idiots, or buffoons, or even just lacking in the intelligence department. It's the classic INT vs WIS though, they have all the knowledge they need, just not the wisdom to actually apply it at times.

So as far as the stat line goes, that's a point or two into dex and two points into int. No, no additional points for charisma. If someone can justify it, feel free to try, but even in stories and such that give them a bit more charisma it's really only with their own kind. Same thing with the looks side of the equation.

With that out of the way, I'd like to see them get innate axes along with a special bonus to axes. It's somewhat slight, but basically what I was thinking is they would get the two handed STR bonus to all one handed axes, and possible add warhammers to that as well. Then for actual 2 handed axes/warhammers they could get an additional slight boost. For example with some fake numbers.

Lets say the STR bonus for their 22 str is +4, and normally the bonus for 2 handed weapons was 1.5 the bonus.

They'd get the 1.5 on all axes/warhammers and then x2 on the actual 2 handers for +6/+8 instead of the normal +4/+6.

Their strength is lower then every other "warrior" race other than half-elves. To me since they are pretty much one of the most historically militant races it'd make sense that they'd learn how to get all they could out of their "dwarven might" with their "dwarven weapons".

For the too long didn't read crowd.

TLDR version.

Dwarves aren't bad, they just aren't real good either.

Package deal.

+1 or +2 Dex, +2 Int

Across the board slight speed boost to axes that everyone could take advantage of.

Innate axes.

STR modifier boost to all axes, and some specific maces such as warhammer.

Make dwarves be able to use shield block even when their opponent is aiming lower, its pretty much makes sense and all :(

cast resurrection thread

So I actually got around to coding a minor benefit for dwarves but there was other code that wasn't ready to go live at the time and then forgot about it. It went live with some bug fixes last week without any fanfare.

So congratulations, dwarves! You get innate axe skill. In addition, axes in the hands of a dwarf have slightly more speed and accuracy.

If you had a dwarf prior to the change, your skill will not be mastered. If you send me an email, I will endeavor to fix up your pfile ASAP.

Great...priest...help? Dwarf priests will ALWAYS suck balls unless dwarves get some massive +int which they won't/shouldn't really.

I can see giving dwarves at least one more point of int. The art of metal-crafting isn't for dummies, after all, and they're the game's experts.

...

:o

This is exactly what I asked for basically, except I asked that they also get it for hammers which they don't. And it was done in under about two weeks.

Awsome Dulrik. Just awsome.

Does the innate axe bonus stack with mercenary specialization?
