Accuracy isn't the problem with axes really. I remember from my dwarf merc. I specced in battle axe and khopesh. The differences were mainly that khopesh could strike 4 times while specced and battle axe could not. I think the axe had one less accuracy and one more damage, in the weapon compare list, than the khopesh. The khopesh was just a lot faster. Also great axes have amazing accuracy. Speed is what makes axes subpar choices. Also the dwarf dex and str were what I think needed to be higher. I see no reason why a dwarf could not have 22/23 str and 20 dex. Giants would still have 2 str and 3 sizes difference on them. This way the darf would have 2 dex and 1 con on the giant.

People mentioned size and that sprites were good before weaknesses. But sprites had the size and 25 dex. So do not attribute that to all size when comparing to a dwarf who has only 18 dex.(and does not have nearly the size bonus for dodging).

Why [REDACTED] about their str and dex scores when you can easily up them with haste and giant strength?

If dwarves get 20 dex and 23 str none will ever again play a human merc/barb. Also they will become so sick tanks even half elves will become extinct.

18 dex is fine for dwarves. Perhaps 1 more str would do, and certainly changing cha max with int max(to make viable casters).

As for dwarf vs giant, it's already been said. No d0rf with 40 willpower will be hit by sleep/charm easily.

How about giving dwarves a speed bonus with axes and hammers? Perhaps even add a low chop skill, to give them an active ability. (Essentially a strengthened kick or weakened hamstring.)

Just no. I know it seems tempting, considering human fighters can get up to 23 strength, but such humans are disproportionately strong. Griffons also have 23 max, and are arguably as combat-oriented as dwarves and much bigger.

The case for higher dex/cha seems even weaker; these are not areas where dwarves should excel. I could see another int point if they need it, but dwarven priests seem to do well enough already.

Dwarves need good players, if you think your up for a challenge in proving all these newbies wrong, make one. (save for the casters, d0rf casters do need more INT :( )

Peso, a dwarf barb in the harlies is not proof that dwarves rock. A certain harlie skill makes up for the lack of dex of the dwarf. When I see a good dwarf who is not affiliated with a cabal, then Ill believe they are good.
