People don't play rogues because they are terrible. They are far too easy to neutralize.

You're still fawning over how things worked when you played Joran, Tragonis. The players that play the game have changed and gotten better, so it's not the same environment as back then.

I don't think anybody has mocked the barb class. The class has been up there for a long time. Hell, a lot of a kills are probably due to barbs being there to type in bash. You'd have to be crazy to mock the barbarian class.

After deployment I might have to roll a rogue again and prove you wrong.

Don't barbarians get the unique ability to nullify the rogue's trademark damage-dealing ability?

Am I missing something here?

Honestly, the success rate of AoN needs to be looked at. I haven't played since this skill was implemented, but I've looked at logs, and just from anecdotal evidence I would say that AoN is WAY more reliable than dispel magic. It seems to land very easily and can be spammed.

AoN should take up a lot of energy so it's not getting spammed throughout a fight. It also shouldn't work so reliably. Right now, the MR barb is superior to the regular enchanted melee character, which is just [REDACTED] backwards, since the MR barb is the one who didn't have to spend any time on prep.

AoN success rate depends on the magic resist training of the user, I think. Or maybe just flat-out resistance.

It's like an A.T. field.

When were barbarians mocked as a class? Between 2002 and 2004 when Mercs had retreat, but before Barbs got fury? Barbs and mercs have been at the top of the food chain for about a decade now. The real issue recently is that a mr barb played by a newb will only go down to either another barbarian or a competent veteran.

I do rather wish that AoN couldn't be refreshed in the middle of a fight.

When I refer to the past, Im referring to sometime in the lifespan of the game as a whole. I view the game from a different time perspective than most players, as I see how the effects of changes can sometimes take months or years to fully surface or be twinked to their extreme. Generally it was in the time prior to the fixing of counter strike, addition of headbutt & fury, etc, but far more recently in that timeframe has been when MR barbarians specifically were mocked so heartily. Troll the statement if you want (or Gilgon), Im not interested in arguing. The message is unchanged and still fact: game balance is fluid, it's in eternal flux as the code base and the "built environment" and the players' knowledge base fluctuates. And there remains room for the MR barbarian to continue to be tweaked and balanced.

As for PK ability, I've no doubt that you have the PK ability to beat many of the MUD's staff through its history. To that I say big deal. There's a lot more involved in game administration than that. Wert was one of the best imms this game has ever seen and he was also one of the game's worst PKers. Any day of the week I would raise him up as a standard for the staff to strive for than the guy whose biggest strength is how many PK notches he has in his belt. You may not agree and may not like it, but it is what it is.

(Self-edited out my own snarky comment, still recovering from a long day at work)
