I've been using everything you've mentioned with Delear. Every scroll, wand, stave to keep my concentration free for casting spells like FOD/fear etc etc.

I kept concentration only on death shroud and 1 detect and I was on the edge when trying to cast heavy spells. What that means....

ANY amount of damage could easily disrupt the spell, resulting in losing both the spell and most likely your life.

Not to mention that you HAD all those items to let you do that, and considering how easy it is to die with a necro the chances of you having them are slim to none. Fly, detects and such maybe. But control, animate, edrain etc at any decent level? Fat chance.

Concerning the other remark on triple/double fod Scrolls...It's doable...sort of...after about 50 tries for a double and 500 for a triple (money problems much?), and even then unless you manage to get one of the (very hoarded) strong/powerful scrolls they are going to be WEAK SPELLS OF meaning UTTER CRAP.

I agree with the second wholeheartedly. I think simply reducing the concentration cost of animates would actually be just fine - Bolster Undead would of course kick the net concentration up to current levels. Could maybe offer a saving throw bonus against insta-BoG doom as well?
Not sure if I think Enchant Armor is 100% necessary, or exactly thematically appropriate.

Is concentration based on -type- of animate?

Nope. Nor should it really matter as anything under a wight (except maybe one zombie) isn't worth having.

Then I think this bitching about concentration is laughable. If its not concentration based via level of animate...its hardly keeping you from holding other spells. I mean the hurt isn't very bad at all.

I will support Delear's views on the subject by 1000%.

The day I see necros get enchant armor/weapon will be the day I will completely abandon SK for lack of seriousness. They already have too many divination spells for my taste.

I don't think necromancers need old skills glommed onto them from other classes either. They need something for sure. Dulrik is listening. Hopefully something good comes out of the comments everyone has made about the gimpest class.

Would you care to tell me what sets necros apart from sorcs?

Sorcerors have greater utility than a necromancer because of enchant, gate, and resizing spells. Also there's etherealform, final strike, and petrification. They are similar. Some of that is a lack of really useful magical items in the game like scrolls. However not all the powerful scrolls in the game are hoarded, I'm sure there's some available somewhere.

Necromancers are definitely facing many, many more built in challenges than a sorceror will ever have unless he puts those on himself. The necromancer is supposed to be a force to be reckoned with. The sorceror is supposed to be the most knowledgeable in arcane magic. To me, playing a necromancer almost always will end up with you being attacked in a PK setting. Some sorcerors never face real enemies.
