I just don't see the reason why the spell should be wimped. What I proposed would be making the spell more powerful but without the exp cost.

The only reason I see for one wanting to keep the exp drain is the OOC terror it emanates.

This is IC as well. So long as a thread like this comes up from time to time to remind people that it is not just a toy a necromancer gets but rather a tool to be used wisely or else it will be taken away the spell is fine. Like final strike accept the drawbacks will be felt OOC in either RP curses or removal of spells. Players have been giving a powerful manipulation tool of fear which is not feared if not used, how ever if over used it doesnt cause IC fear, it causes OOC resentment.

I've been hit by this spell cast from NPC's ten times more than I ever was by a PC. Even then it really doesn't bother me that much.

QFT.

People are complaining about literally nothing here. E-drain is so wimped it's hardly ever seen. Benzo is the only one who uses it. You loose a notch. Wooppee.

One time Skillz old Necro syral kept summoning a noob of mine into room in teron and edraining me. He did it over and over and Nyran kept rezzing me in teron so I could be immediately summoned again. They effed over like an expert level dwarf barb I had until I lost so much exp I deleted. Took like an hour. I prayed over and over and no imms were watching or even on probably. That's getting e-drained. It made me sick when the effing flipping cheat became an imm.

What Benzo does is nothing. It's totally within the boundries of the rules. The spell is now coded so it's almost completely non abuseable. There's got to be some reason left to fear necros. I mean a notch of exp is a joke. I got e-drained 2 levels in Krychire on Roriand from NPCs alone. Me and Peso went out to the kill zayyras demons and I had 2 full levels back like nothing.

I don't think I've been e-drained by a PC since Syral. Truth be told I've probably been e-drained by the mummies in morea over the past six years more then all the pcs e-draines I've ever had combined.

I don't think E-drain needs to be wimped again. I don't think it should be removed either. Necro's aren't that [REDACTED] hot. When I had Roriand. Me and Jorlian killed Every Necro there was in the game. They aren't that great. I saw Ardith with one priest beat a necro with like 20 wraiths. Just holyword and they are gone.

I wouldn't go wrecking the one fullfilling I'm getting revenge and you're gonna hurt spell they got.

I agree with Someone and TheCannibal.

Energy drain USED to be overpowered and excessively vicious. Now it's fine. I think if it gets used to a certain extent, the imms can smack on a curse, but right now it isnt being exploited to the point where it could be.

Necromancers are just doing what they do.. being the diabolic, make-you-hate-them class that they are meant to be. They have their goals, and they will make you suffer to accomplish them. If energy drain gets wimped, there would not be enough suffering.

And back to my previous point, Holy Word from a priest or a paladin destroys any necromancer instantly, and yes only two classes get that spell. There are several classes that can use ranged attacks to obliterate any necromancer, and anything that can wield a scroll.

The fact of the matter is.. if you are TRYING to go ONE on ONE against a necromancer and they pull off an energy drain, then either your doing something wrong or you dont have the know-how to take it down.

Necros are unbalanced and a joke. So is edrain.

If anything, a reset to necros 8 years ago would be a much better solution than trying to salvage this most useless and deserted class.

I've said it once and I'll say it again:

Unless a single necromancer, by himself, can decimate a group of 6 pcs when prepared and on the offensive, the class is utterly and completely useless. I'd rather have someone else who doesn't have so many hard coded enemies against them.

Secondly, if edrain isn't able to shave levels off you in a single fight, it's also, equally, worthless.

So all in all, stop discussing it, let the class completely and finally take the death its needed to for six years since when I first told Dulrik "if you change necros in this fashion, you will make them uber-buff despite the e-drain wimp." Most couldn't grasp why making animate dead the primary spell was the worst thing you could do to game balance in a game where you can have as many people on 1 target as you wish.

I also don't think he anticipated the weapon changes and how much they gave to an equippable, multi-pet class.

Some also didn't and still do not understand why I was complaining because controlled undead hps were lowered, despite the fact there's 4 "I win" spells against controlled undead in the game.

Or why death shroud needs to be removed.

And that my friends, is why I don't play and refuse to play a necromancer. When I don't wish to play a class it is broken.

Yeah, Dulrik makes mistakes. Shocking. It's almost as if he's a human who does this in his spare time and we play this game for free. Just...almost!

Grakus, did you think that maybe you were wrong?

No?

Quit posturing useless crap you arrogant [REDACTED].

The necromancer class isn't underpowered or anything. The only problem is people who want to be absolutely heroic and praised for the abilities of their class, not their skill.

Uh-huh.

That's why you're a lightie-only player now, huh? Paladin fist anyone?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

I was right. It's not something I want to be proud of, I wish I could say I was wrong so that the game was more fun at the moment -- but I'm fairly astute when it comes to game balance. It may come from experience, or perhaps dumb luck, but gun to my head I'd probably suggest its because I think like a good economist should.
