Personally, I usually use the first four letters or the complete name, if it's easy to type. Aerlyn, for example, I always type out. Everika, however, is usually reduced to ever. Adjectives are usually four-letter. I'd be just as happy if you weren't able to use the first four letters of your name/adjective for the first four of your pet's name.

Why not just make a simple rule... your pet name cannot start with the same letter as your name / adjective.

Except my adj is black-haired and I buy a black horse in Nerina. I also name it Stuve so if someone doesn't type out black- or stuvw they won't target me.

Simple. Change the code so it targets exits first. People second. NPCs third. And objects fourth.

Right now it does objects first, people/npcs second, and exits third.

The only thing sad-assed is the inability of people to type more than three letters when they want to look at someone.

I named my pet with the first five letters of my adjective (which is over seven letters itself) the other day, and tossed in a random letter at the end. Then I went and sat in Nerina and Teron and Exile for a bit just to watch. One guy looked at me FOUR TIMES before he was finally able to target me instead of my horse.

That = lazy.

Better watch out. Apparently, having five letters of your pet's name the same as the first five letters of your adjective is enough to get OOC tells from "someone" who will threaten you with a curse or hell if you don't start using a different pet name. Or...Wait. I've run into this and worse countless times before and since that tell. Maybe it's just me that gets those. :roll:

I understand the desire to enforce this, but enforce it fairly or not at all.

I've seen and know of people who routinely have only the last letter of their pet's name different than their adjective...and they are allowed to continue doing this. Fluff, you're absolutely right. That was my horse name from the time when GMs started ganking me at jman and I needed an edge to give me time to get the hell out of dodge. That, apparently, is curse worthy, so why isn't the above mentioned twinkery?
