Okay. And with the current system, a prepped opponent is also going to have items to improve their efficacy.

What is this, socialist game land.

Okay, so now all the staves/wands of MI/acid blast/yadayadayada need to be removed too?

Man, at this rate, we really will wind up with no items.

So, continuing to be obtuse.

How does having a 1/3rd gap between those who prepare via enchants, armor, and PC-castable buffs (and thusly scribable, brewable if targettable) suddenly become everyone will be equal forever, comrade? Are you trying to be spiteful?

I'm just saying that there should be a 1/3rd gap of player controllable buffs that everyone can do, instead of some players getting a 1/2 gap improvement because classes can't cast class specific spells on themselves twice, and some being stuck at 1/3.

PS: there are more ways than you think

Any changes in this direction would seriously make sorcerors the top dogs in the game.

NO BUFFS 4 U

lol, good luck against a fully buffed Lathron

The problem is that if you don't exactly know how changes are going to work there's no point in arguing with you on this subject.

Also, ironically, if MI is available to other classes, yes, it makes Sorcerers weaker, because now something that is supposed to be unique to them is available to a class who would normally not have access to it.

Technically, the only class that should have mirror image up on demand very easily is Sorcerer, always. Casters with access to devices and a Sorcerer are second. Other casters are third. Rogues to an extent are fourth. As of right now, Hellions have a way but they're a distant fifth (and I think it's debatable whether they should get it or not -- sue me), and I don't really see why any other class should have access to it.

Devices that give you access to non-class spells should probably have their total charges lowered (why there are items in this game that can hold this many charges of etherealform, mirror image, etc. is completely beyond me). For a Sorcerer, these spells should be the main attraction. For other classes, they should be situational. There's no reason why, for instance, a Necromancer or Warlock should be able to go around with mirror image up nearly all the time unless they have a Sorcerer helping them out. That's asinine. But they can.

Also, the diamond stuff in Exile SHOULD probably get nerfed. I can see one or two "good" items in a starting city (not great, but good), and I mean weapons mainly, or items from unusual materials (I am fond of the currently severely-underutilized dragonscale in this aspect), but a full kit of armor that spawns a ton of times is a bit... well.

Syn, you are so disturbed at the fact your dominance may be challenged you are being obtuse.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, and I'm obviously far from the best player (seriously, me and Othet live like a billion miles apart and he's obviously the best), but one of the things I always did wish was different about this game was the general reliance on preparation over skill. That's not to say that skill isn't involved, of course, but my general impression has always been that it's the better-prepared side that will win, unless the other side DRASTICALLY outmaneuvers them.

Of course when I say "prepared" I'm pretty much talking about material preparations--equipment, enchanting, brewing, and of course buffs. I like the wide variety of buffs in the game and the additional element of strategy that they can bring, but I also like the idea of limiting their availability, and not just by having fewer scripts. I'd even welcome MORE scripts, if those scripts were carefully designed with regard to who would be able to benefit from them, and how, and what drawbacks, if any, there might be. Likewise, I'd hate to see a broad nerf to buffs, but limiting their availability--by which I mean limiting the situations and characters with access to those buffs, rather than just making them rarer so only the hoarders can have them--could possibly not only "balance" the game, but make it more interesting as well.

Wow. I just want to start by saying I can't believe ardith just called chess finite. Yes, technically that may be correct, but I still don't think they've built the computer that could calculate the number of moves that could be made in a game of chess. It's obviously far more strategic than SK could ever dream of being.

About the topic of this post: If this forum were my email box, I would swear the opening post got caught in somebody's draft folder for 8 months and then sent by mistake. Already been mentioned, but some of the "facts" given have been out of date for at least that long. Please don't start a giant flamefest without doing your homework first.

That's not to say that the original poster didn't have a point (8 months ago), but we've dealt with some of it already (RE, SA), are dealing with some of it now (Sargas script nerfing) and are on record with plans to deal with it in the future (removing trib NPC casting).

But as poorly thought out as the original post was, this is the gameplay forum and there is not going to be any tolerance for insulting people here. You can politely disagree. You can even vehemently disagree. But you cannot call people an idiot or other name calling.

I doubt it has to do with her dominance. I think she just expects the game to work very strictly X way.

Also, I didn't realize I was mashing assist, but there's D. :P

LOL fluff

Yeah, because Lathron cannot be dispelled/remove compulsion/petrified, or the sorcerer can be demolished with ranged combat.

Also, Prince Lathron already spawns with sanctuary/haste/detect invis/detect hidden. Dunno what else he needs to be considered "fully buffed"
