See that is the problem the xp scale was changed not the skill/spell scale. That reminded the same. I brought this up a while ago and D told me us that it had not been touched. Which we know but now in scale everything is out of wack! Skill and spell are not costing 2 ticks. Most of them are about half a level. That is the problem.

You say problem, I say interesting side affect. The amount of experience required to train relative to a level really tapers off around apprentice or so.

Yes. Those master level sorcerors who only know magic missile, color spray, fly, and invis are absolutely wonderful for the mud.

That's a very extreme hyperbole. Learning a spell a rank late, or even a few levels into the rank, makes a world of difference. And don't forget that after you hit Veteran, everything is the same as it used to be (Not to mention spellcasters should have a higher INT anyway, and thus require less experience to train spells)

Like I said, I've leveled a couple characters since the changes (Swash and paladin, the swash with very low INT and paladin still stuck in Smart) and I see no problem in the way things work.

I made a lowbie in the Empire recently and I love all those little quests you added Achernar. They gave the perfect amount of "spare" xp to pay for my skills.

So your solution to this "interesting side affect" is to wait to learn everything below apprentice because then the level of xp reflects the cost of xp at that level!

No, it's to train the important leveling skills (Attack skills such as second/third attack, enhanced damage and dual wield along with damaging spells such as magic missile, cause light, lightning bolt, and important beneficial spells such as fly, refresh, etc) whenever you can, while leaving the skills that are less necessary for leveling (cure deafness, detect buried, faerie fog, create water, etc) for a few levels down the road, maybe the next status or just rank 4 or 5 of the suggested status.

But that's always been the case, so nothing is really different, just the numbers. Have you actually leveled a character Carsetius, or are you just arguing for the sake of arguing? It's really not as bad as people are making it out to be unless you go around training every skill and spell at rank 1 of every status.

I have found ways around it, but that is not fixing the cause of the problem. I think all skills and spells need to be scaled to the new xp levels. That is all.

I'm definitely able to sympathize with Syn on this. I was running 19 int and getting same-level skills trained to good was taking upwards of 3 ticks pretty much until I hit late jman. It was kind of a pain in the [REDACTED]. I'm pretty firmly of the opinion that you shouldn't have to wait to use new skills - that's the only real joy of leveling, is getting new abilities to use. I wouldn't really call it in an interesting choice to have to decide between, say, fast healing and enhanced damage. You're going to get both eventually, and not having the exp for both just means you get to level more slowly until you do. And as a fun side effect, it also means you start leveling your skill later, so it won't get mastered as soon.

That being said, this isn't like ohmygod broken. It's just annoying.

I try to refrain from learning skills I dont need immediately. About 7-10 levels above the skill I will learn it.
