You say problem, I say interesting side affect. The amount of experience required to train relative to a level really tapers off around apprentice or so.

That's a very extreme hyperbole. Learning a spell a rank late, or even a few levels into the rank, makes a world of difference. And don't forget that after you hit Veteran, everything is the same as it used to be (Not to mention spellcasters should have a higher INT anyway, and thus require less experience to train spells)
Like I said, I've leveled a couple characters since the changes (Swash and paladin, the swash with very low INT and paladin still stuck in Smart) and I see no problem in the way things work.
