A lot of players are more concerned with 'winning' or 'scoring points' than making for an interesting story.

What happened here is that you were the victim of a player who wanted to grab the chance to kill you before you got away. Well, don't let it take you down or change you to one of em :p

Just consider it an example to avoid and if you like, consider it a personal victory that they were ridiculed openly for killing an apprentice 5 v 1 :P

This kind of stuff does happen from time to time but my experience is that it's far from the norm. If you enjoy the game outside of this don't let it get you down.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I wasn't there but I've experienced the same thing before. Definitely bad form and a case of 'wrong place, wrong time'. I do hope you change your mind and hang around.

One last post before I retire in peace.

1. Enmity might have given motive for 1 of them to attack, but it certainly didn't give reason for the other four.

2. Enmity doesn't give any reason for them to loot my corpse and junk all my equipment, which was apparently done after my initial post was made. Bravo.

You were attacked by a group member and the rest auto-assisted their groupmate. They would have been unable to avoid attacking you without fleeing the room and opening up their group to counterattack by the lighties they were fighting earlier. You probably were dead before half of them even thought about fleeing anyway.

It's also hard to say who looted your corpse. Anyone could have come by at a later time and taken items from your corpse without having been in any way involved with the killing. But as many people have said, if you RP with other people on the side of light, you will probably be gifted with equipment that is even better than what you had, out of sympathy.

I'm really sorry that this happened to you. It's certainly not something that happens every day. And we would like to avoid losing you as a player. But there is going to be killing that takes place and occasionally the innocent get caught in the cross-fire. A lot of people will use this as motivation to deepen their character story and a lot of people actually find it exhilerating to get involved in a war this early in their story.

But if you aren't able to handle the chance that you could die at any time, it might be better to move to a game that doesn't allow PK.

Remember to type MANIFEST so that those who kill you in the room can see & hear you. This allows a much greater chance that mistakes can be corrected when they realise that you AREN'T a high-level enemy elf with the same adjective as the person they are hunting, for example.

In fact, perhaps this should be automatic for status > Novice < Journeyman?

I would say any says from a ghost should be heard. Maybe manifest makes them more readily understood? But if that isn't possible, auto-manifest should be in place for jman and below.

Those players and their player characters do not represent SK. In fact a few within that group has notorious reputations for their past characters due to their distinct play-styles. Unfortunately it had happened to someone, but things did not have to end there. Help can easily be received if the appropriate in-game characters were contacted to remedy the problems.

Stopping right after that would mean a lot of good things in SK can never be experienced. Such as finding all the wonderful areas in SK, for example, Craeftilin; all the tough monsters that requires a group of players working together to defeat; and most importantly, all the quality interactions from those who know how to go about the PK and RP.

There are also various cabals, some secretive, with their own ideals that grant special, powerful skillsets to aid their cause, religious-specific spells for every religion in SK. The list goes on.

Suggested this one before. General response to the idea was, most veteran players wanted to do whatever they wanted instead of staying there and (forced to) roleplay. GG.

Ghosts should speak in godtongue >_<, so everyone can understand!

But really, had I been leading that group, sad player would have gotten bitchslapped  , there are people who are great leaders in PK, that can keep their people calm, and there are people that let them go wild.

Ouch.. I really hope that wasn't an intentional snipe. She fired off the spell while I was typing the commands. And as D said, I was completely handcuffed by the fact that the poor guy died so fast. I told them to leave your things, but I don't have control over the one person who may have taken something from you.

I am certainly not happy or proud of this situation at all. And not too long after this, I realized that no decent opponents were going to meet my challenge of taking over their inn (People seemed to log out as soon as I got ready), and I decided that it would be best to move on to something more worthy of the group thereafter.

I am terribly, terribly sorry you were killed in this way. It never was and never is my intention to grief low level characters. I wanted to talk to you after you were dead, but my priests said you were gone. I would have explained to you then why it was you died, and in the best IC way possible, let you know that you wouldn't be hunted unless you purposely got in my way in the form of seeking revenge.

These sorts of deaths aren't what those on the mud are looking for, and they certainly suck to sit through. Just about anyone who knows me can tell you how many times I've been steamrolled, and it's happened at all levels. However, we do try to take more of an in character approach to these things where possible. Intentional griefing of low level characters is dealt with swift out of character punishments, sure, but any time a low level character is killed, it pisses anyone who would call them an ally off, and there is sure to be retribution ICly. Whether or not that works depends on who is claiming vengeance and who committed the misdeed, but I am sure if you continue to play, I'll see more of my fair share of hell for this mistake on the part of my ally.

I'm also sure that if she decided to consider first and kill later, she would have chosen a different path. By the time she realized what she did, however, it was already too late, and she had to go with whatever fit the moment and her character best. I'm certainly not defending her actions, but you weren't targeted purposefully, as others have said. I guess she wasn't very confident in the huge group we had.

Anyway, I want to further reiterate that your being killed was not planned or wanted. And at least some of us involved are deeply sorry for it. If you do decide to stick with SK, however, you should be warned that it is a very easy game to die in. The rewards beyond that make it worth playing for most, but even the best can spam die in the wrong circumstances.

Again, I'm very sorry you were killed out of paranoia, and I do hope that you come back. Either way, I wish the best of luck to you.

-Randy
