Ouch.. I really hope that wasn't an intentional snipe. She fired off the spell while I was typing the commands. And as D said, I was completely handcuffed by the fact that the poor guy died so fast. I told them to leave your things, but I don't have control over the one person who may have taken something from you.
I am certainly not happy or proud of this situation at all. And not too long after this, I realized that no decent opponents were going to meet my challenge of taking over their inn (People seemed to log out as soon as I got ready), and I decided that it would be best to move on to something more worthy of the group thereafter.
I am terribly, terribly sorry you were killed in this way. It never was and never is my intention to grief low level characters. I wanted to talk to you after you were dead, but my priests said you were gone. I would have explained to you then why it was you died, and in the best IC way possible, let you know that you wouldn't be hunted unless you purposely got in my way in the form of seeking revenge.
These sorts of deaths aren't what those on the mud are looking for, and they certainly suck to sit through. Just about anyone who knows me can tell you how many times I've been steamrolled, and it's happened at all levels. However, we do try to take more of an in character approach to these things where possible. Intentional griefing of low level characters is dealt with swift out of character punishments, sure, but any time a low level character is killed, it pisses anyone who would call them an ally off, and there is sure to be retribution ICly. Whether or not that works depends on who is claiming vengeance and who committed the misdeed, but I am sure if you continue to play, I'll see more of my fair share of hell for this mistake on the part of my ally.
I'm also sure that if she decided to consider first and kill later, she would have chosen a different path. By the time she realized what she did, however, it was already too late, and she had to go with whatever fit the moment and her character best. I'm certainly not defending her actions, but you weren't targeted purposefully, as others have said. I guess she wasn't very confident in the huge group we had.
Anyway, I want to further reiterate that your being killed was not planned or wanted. And at least some of us involved are deeply sorry for it. If you do decide to stick with SK, however, you should be warned that it is a very easy game to die in. The rewards beyond that make it worth playing for most, but even the best can spam die in the wrong circumstances.
Again, I'm very sorry you were killed out of paranoia, and I do hope that you come back. Either way, I wish the best of luck to you.
