RP IC standards (vows, oaths, whatnot) should be governed by members and leadership of said groups (religions/tribunals/cabals) and not by code. The interpretation of the vows should be left to leadership to determine. If someone 'gets away' with doing something wrong, that is part of the RP. Getting caught/turned in/etc. can bring a lot to the game. Mostly it's not a character ending experience, but an opportunity to RP a punishment and learning (atoning/lifting tarnishment, etc).

I would sooner work on groups continuing to develop/define their vows/oaths, being more responsible for their members, and individuals for their own behavior from an RP standpoint, than hard coding vows.
As you can see by the discussion, there are different ways people view even the 'no flee'/'no retreat' concept.
