Shattered Kingdoms

So, I want to roll a priest (or priestess). I'd like to be one of at some sort of maintained religion. That said... I still don't know much about the various faiths. I've read the helpfiles and all that, buuut.... well, its easier to give some info.

Jallin, my sorc, is a darkie (By accident, really. Miscreant sounded more CN than Anarchist.) I'm not saying I -want- to be a lightie, because, well, in my experience 'good priests' get crapped on because everyone expects you to do things for them because you're a good guy. I think Greybie might be better, but I wouldn't be opposed to lightie if I can get a concept rolling.

All that said, I know a few stats and I'll get basic info from mentors, but I -do- need help with knowing where to aim on this crazy dartboard. I've gathered that acceptance into a religion isn't that difficult, but... I would rather go about all of the religion stuff properly. Clerics/priests have always been a class near and dear to me for years. This time, though, I'm just inexperienced about the faiths and need just a spark to ignite my imagination.
I'm probably going to roll gnome, as well, if that matters. Past that, no clue.

(And to sneak in a question, is there a way to change alignment? >.>)

There's a rich in-character background of gnomes and Achernar, which could be a very good board to spring from.

And no, you can't change alignment.

You can always try a gray Sadal priest with a focus on the sphere or "fortune" and be selfish enough to not do anything if there's no profit.

I'm not good with -crazy chaos- type characters. I end up feeling stupid and lost. Like.... I'll invariably do something that turns into an elaborate event.... and that'll be awesome, but then I can never outdo myself and have no purpose. Kudos to the ones who can do Chaotic to such a degree. Selfish, I can do, and I do like the Sadal idea. Fortune telling gnome is something I could probably play off of and have fun with. Nothing's fully decided (Not even the gnome bit) so I appreciate and will continue to appreciate any comments, good or bad.

Lightie priests have to deal with people claiming they're entitled to things.

Darkie priests have to deal with people demanding things, though not so much.

Neutral priests have to deal with everyone.


If you want religious RP, my best advice is to seek out priests on your CURRENT character, because rolling a priest kind of sets you up for a scenario where, as a source of religious RP, you'll only get it if you can find a destination.


Also, go for a faith that is both active and is handled by an immortal patron who shares the identity. Use the Immortal Contacts thread for reference. For example, there is currently an immortal staffer who takes up Aludra as an identity and faith. If that immortal is active, you can be more assured of religious RP with your deity than, say, Sadal, who is currently an unallocated immortal, or Dulrik, who is currently headed up by Marfik who is known to be somewhat AFK for IRL stuff, though Marfik is indeed quite nice.

Thank you Grep. I may have been exaggerating a tad in the title for flare's sake, I do want to play a religious character, but my current character inwardly grumbles at immortal affairs... for now. That is very good advice and is sort of the thing that's kept me from making one so far. For almost every other class, you can make one, and judge where to go with the character from there. For priests, you have to know the religion you're going for, make a char concept that fits it, have stats that won't make it suck, and all that on top of worrying if your goal is obtainable with staffing being where it is at the moment.

Then again, I can always roll shaman or paladin.

Come to think of it, are there many paladins in SK?

Well, can anyone PM me with some of this gnomish/achernar backstory (ONLY so much as ICly, my gnome would know, assuming that its common knowledge to all gnomes.) If not, its alright, I'll persevere, but I'd be more than interested in seeing about incorperating it.

EDIT: Plus, looking over religious leaders... Achernar needs some TLC, poor god. I'll probably be bumpy at the start, but I'll try. ^.^

EDIT+: Religious leaders thread may be a tad old. I just ran into a fellow priest. Don't know if he's the High Follower, but if so could probably use an update.

I tried to send a few hints your way ICly and I believe you should have the basic answer to your question. I'll look at updating the RL status thread soon. I hope you enjoy the concept. I know portraying my priest of death gave me plenty of enjoyment.
