To keep this out of the realm of hard coding and "you can do that here".

option 1:
Give the alignment of the spirit as a part of the tell. This would only apply to spirits, and may require mutiple swamps/pre-aura aligned afterlife areas depending on the option and the coding.
Ex1:
(Grey Aura) Someone tells you, 'This is Billy, I'm dead can you fix that for me?'
Ex2:
Someone from the Grey Isle tells you, 'This is Billy, I'm dead can you fix that for me?'

option 2: Have ressurrection automatically fail if the aura of the target differs from the aura of your god. Have this set a timer, and a repeat casting within the timer will succed. Possibly make dark to light/light to dark require three successful casts, in part to represent the dep commitment required to make such a breach of normal behavior.

Ex1:
c resurrection Billy
You start to concentrate.
Your god does not favor Billy.
c ressurection Billy
You start to concentrate.
Your god recognizes your great desire to return Billy.
You have resurrected Billy!

By keeping it in the hands of the players they can decide what is the best RP option for their character. Lighties can still resurrect darkies to "try and save them". Darkies can still resurrect lighties to "try and corrupt them". Greys can still do what ever they want. Newbies still get life when they are ganked by some GM barb.

Tonth would find a way to still make it difficult, because that's how Silmar is.

Making rezzes too difficult particularly for a lowbie player is in bad taste I think. Demanding the know all the tenants of a faith they don't follow is another stickler. I make my returns easy for my friends...and as a way to garnish you owe mes for later. Yes I'm a grey priest...it's such a hard life. If the changes get made though...the fifteen tells I get a day for rezplzkthnx will turn into double. Yes I like rez bitching, brew whoring, and enchanting...but I'm one person at the keyboard and RP will go out the window in some aspects. I'm one of the few priests I know that force rp from the rezzes. Or try to unless there are the predicted fifteen in the river after a major battle. Also even if your caballed...so long as you're not a full lightie/full darkie and you haven't come to an agreement with an enemy (Ie. Thuban faith members in Adepts and Harlies) then faith comes first. At least imho...

As for the newbs asking for rezzes...if you lose a link and get back...try to resend another tell. Usually the priest/priestess tried to get you and your soul isn't here. And yeah names...are a good thing. And if the priestess/priest bends over backasswards to help you...saying return me or your soul is in danger will just leave ya in the river. ;)

Just because I've been quiet and I haven't given anyone a reason to bite my head off lately....

There was this one time....

Deirdra told me, OOC, that she did in fact rezz a darkie. *gasps* Why?

OMG, the RP!

Simply put MC vs. Talons, they were trying to establish peace. While it was against Meissa, she PRAYED that if anyone had a problem with it, she would not do it, but silence would be taken as a granting of permission to use this single act to help HEAL the rift between the two nations.

It was done as an act of diplomacy and to help heal.

Restrictions such as what Dulrik is saying might hamper things like that. It is really sad when the poor guy has to hard code things because OOC connections could be getting in the way.

And before a certain someone goes off on a tangent, Deirdra did get lied to at other times by darkies, rezzed them, found them to be darkies, and sent them back to the River. (I know, I watched it happen) So no, that one example is not what she was ALWAYS like.

I think my point is, that RP should be able to handle this. I mean if that really is a problem. Why wouldn't the god to smite the hell out of the priest who did it. Send them to the River and not let them out? Revoke their priestly abilities for a good ten years and one helluva atonement quest?

Or maybe I should just shut up and go to bed and stop posting at 2:30 in the morning during finals week?

This is so true. The more the pressure on priests is upped, the less room there will be for proper roleplay. The fifteen tells Mourning Song mentions is not an exaggeration.

I like motown's option of revealing aura in spirit tell. It will prevent some thubanite roleplay, but at least it will still leave room for a wider lightie interpretation than hard code would.

Something I've always wanted to do: Priests can't resurrect people who are of opposed alignment to their god or that follow a god who is of an opposed alignment to their god. Why? Because your god knows the heart of a soul in the river and denies use of resurrection to those who would are opposed to him. Never done that because it used to be too hard to get a resurrection. These days though it sounds too easy, so perhaps the time has come.

As always, I still think this is a horrible idea.

I fail to understand why, exactly, it "should" be difficult to get back to life?

The game has been designed with immortal-built death-traps everywhere all throughout the gameworld. The game has now been hard-coded with capture-the-flag, uber-guardian NPCs, death-squad hunting NPCs to encourage the wholesale slaughter of player characters. The game's atmosphere and players support a playing field that supports and encourages constant PvP PK interaction with an occasional suggestion of RP thrown into the mix.

In short... everything about SK drives the game toward killing its players' characters. Until that changes, I fail to understand how making it harder to get back to life adds any value to the gaming experience here.

:-?
