I'm not being snide, I just can't figure out how it would be relevant.

It's a new player, and every game changes the rules that you grow accustomed to?

I wanted to know if it was worth it to get armor made out of stronger material and around when. I know now that when I start fighting something that has a weapon made out of stronger material than my armor, I need to upgrade. If whatever I'm fighting happens to be wearing armor or it's skin is made out of tougher stuff than what I am using as a weapon, I need to get a weapon made out of stronger material.

Or at least the information I've gleaned thus far....

And thus far, I'd say that's a good start on your journey.

You have the right idea, but during the early years of your character's life it is often less hassle to just repair your armor and weapon. It is only when you start getting close to Grandmaster that you should be seriously considering the material of your equipment versus the material of your foes. In spite of that, Tanso Steel still goes a long long way.
