In the shops:
1. Is there a way to compare equipment before you buy it?
Today i bought @ 15-20 things only to realize what i had was better, so i just dropped it on the ground.
(in some instances this helped me because i died a few times today, so instead of being naked i just
went and picked up the stuff i dropped. but i would rather have known)
2. Is there a way to tell what piece of armor goes where before you buy it?
Today at the shop i had a choice between sollerets, cuisses, curates, munnions. I bought them all hoping
1 of them would fit somewhere i didnt have any protection yet, but i was wrong.
2b. What body parts can you put stuff on?

Thank you for your time and your help

1. no
2. not really. you can try googling/wikipedia, since that's probably how the builders found it

2b.
you have seven 'armor' slots:
head
body
shoulders
arms
waist
legs
feet
you have six 'jewelry' slots:
2 on fingers
2 around the neck
2 on wrist
and one 'people usually wear containers here' slot:
around the body

you can also wear a shield in your non-dominant hand. shields benefit your 'armor class' whether or not you have proficiency with them, but if you have shield block, you can also use your shield to not get hit by attacks entirely. if you have shield block, fighting defensively with a shield is good. if you are fighting someone with a shield use the combat aim command to aim lower where its harder to shield block.

Some tips: armor acts in two ways, based on what I've heard: most important is that your armor protects what you put it on. Wearing a good helmet won't be so great for keeping your feet from getting hurt, and so on.

The 'magical protection' enchantments on armor work in ways wondrous and ill-defined. People debate their finer details all the time.

Your needs will depend on your class.

While you're here you may as well be told that you gain a penalty if you carry more than half of your carrying capacity. This means that things like puny paladins in plate don't do so hotly as they could otherwise.

Also good to note:

1. Help armor2 is an incredibly useful file. Each class has an armor class, like most RPGs, and this will expand on specifics. Wearing armor that is too heavy gives you penalties to spell and skill proficiencies, making your life generally more difficult.
2. Armor weight penalties do not apply to 'jewelry' slots. If you are playing a cloth priest, for instance, you are not restricted by armor class in those 6 items.

Also isn't applicable to what is in the hands, symbol, or 'about the body'.
