It sucks.

Not sure on the mechanics, but using eq that isn't your size has no benefit.

Unless you're a sorc or something and to wear clothes that are a size smaller than you, jus to save weight. So you can hoard more. :drunk:

Armor that is one size too large leaves many openings between the armor. Armor that is one size too small causes your skin to be exposed, making it easy to be cut.

As far as weapon size, this:
Weapons your size, you have normal accuracy and damage.
Weapons one size larger, you have less accuracy but more damage.
Weapons one size smaller, you have more accuracy but less damage.

Ask around about accuracy. Accuracy wins over damage. A merc with an epee will beat a merc specced in a halberd most of the time. There are the times when the halberd will win, but a minority.

So, you want more control, but you need at least some damage, so it's always a good idea to leave your weapon at your size.

Why are they only effective in the hands of larger sized races? What happens to make it less effective for me?

Let's say you're playing a centaur (size large) you'd wanna be using weapons that are size large (not medium or giant), if you were playing a giant (size giant) you'd wanna use a weapon that's size giant (not large or huge) because if the weapon you're wielding isn't the size of your character you receive penalties.

However, to clarify, a giant wielding a giant sized weapon will do more damage than a centaur wielding a large sized weapon, even though a centaur wielding a large sized weapon will do more damage than one wielding a giant sized weapon.

In summary:
Sprite - size tiny - tiny weapon
Halfling, dwarf, gnome - size small - small weapons
Human, Elf, Deep-elf, Half-elf - size medium - medium weapons
Griffon, minotaur, Centaur - size large - large weapons
Giant - size giant - giant weapons
